LASER EYE SURGERY

Intra LASIK surgery

What is LASIK surgery?

Intra LASIK, full laser lasik or also called Femto LASIK is a laser eye surgery during which the protective corneal flap is created with femtosecond laser (femtolasik) and the excimer laser works on the basis of dioptric expression of the disorder. It is still the preferred method for many optical centres and laser eye clinics worldwide.

Why is it called bladeless LASIK?

During conventional LASIK-type surgery, the protective layer in the form of cornea lamella is surgically created by means of mechanical microkeratome with a sharp oscilating blade. Although the surgery is extremely safe and reliable, the idea of a vibrating blade working on their eye is not acceptable for a number of patients.

Compared to that, during Intra LASIK surgery the protective layer is created with delicate and precise laser, without using any sharp or cutting instruments. This so-called femtosecond laser can create the flap in a safe, precise and painless manner. VisuMax femtosecond laser by Zeiss. Femtosecond laser is used by NASA to heal its cosmonauts and by the US Army and US Navy to heal the members of combat units as well as pilots. In the case of the LASIK method, the dioptric expression of the disorder is determined on the basis of autorefractometer measurements and on the basis of the subsequent method of subjective refraction by means of examination glasses and optotypes.

How does it work?

The LASIK surgery is painless and quick. It usually only takes 10-15 minutes. The recovery process is very fast and the eye is stabilised withing few days.

What lasers do you use?

We use Excimer laser MEL 80 and Carl Zeiss femtosecond laser VisuMAX.

Intra LASIK Wavefront surgery

What is LASIK Wavefront?

IntraLASIK Wavefront with femtosecond laser (femtolasik) is a good solution for your eyes that can be offered by refractive surgery. IntraLASIK Wavefront laser eye surgery has the highest potential to achieve perfect vision.

All laser methods of removing diopters change the curvature of the eye cornea so that the optical system of the eye will form images of observed objects on the retina as true as possible.

In case of PRK, LASIK or IntraLASIK type laser eye surgery, the laser work is based on the expression of the disorder in a way you know from your glasses prescription, i.e. expression by means of a mark and a number of diopters and according to the number of so-called cylinders and their axis. In case of wavefront-guided LASIK (intra lasik wavefront surgery), the laser work is based on the digital map of the eye created on the basis of measurements of the eye with a special device called aberrometer.

The aberrometer measures the optical system of the eye in several hundred points. It can capture and describe even minor irregularities of the optical system of the eye that are, however, very important for the quality of vision and that cannot be expressed by means of dioptric description of the disorder. In addition to the basic disorder, the laser removes these minor irregularities during the actual laser eye surgery as well.

What are benefits of Wavefront to standard LASIK?

Wavefront-guided LASIK is similar to conventional LASIK, except that in addition to treating a patients basic refractive error, a 3D map of the eye is created using a device called aberrometer. The aberrometer captures specific alterations and visual irregularities in a patients eye, also called higher-order aberrations. All the imperfections are displayed on a 3D wavefront map that is used to guide the lasers.  Unlike traditional LASIK, wavefront LASIK treat both lower and higher-order aberrations which results in a reduced risk of post LASIK complications, such as glare and difficulty with night vision. These irregularities can affect vision quality, contrast sensitivity, and night vision. Wavefront LASIK is more precise thanks to the 3D wavefront map.

ReLEx SMILE surgery

Am I suitable for ReLEx SMILE?

ReLEx SMILE is most suitable for short-sighted people and people with astigmatismus. This method allows to treat higher myopic prescriptions than LASIK.

What are the advantages?

  • Only one femtosecond laser is used during the whole laser eye surgery
  • No flap is created
  • Very small incision of less than 2mm compared to 20mm of LASIK
  • Less energy is used hence more gentle for the eye
  • Short recovery period as no flap is created

How many days do I have to stay?

Only 3 days are necessary for the surgery. Both eyes are operated on the same day, preceded by a thorough preoperative eye examination.

How is the ReLEx SMILE laser eye surgery done?

ReLEx smile has the benefits of using only one femtosecond laser hence one single-step, one integrated procedure.

In a single step, the VisuMax creates a refractive lenticule and a small incision of less than 4 mm in the intact cornea - virtually regardless of the ambient conditions or corneal structure.

relex smile laser eye surgery step 1

The lenticule is removed through the small incision. The deterioration of the biomechanics of the cornea is minimal. No flap is cut.

relex smile laser eye surgery step 2

The removal of the lenticule changes the shape of the cornea, creating the required change to the refraction.
