Testimonials – Rachel – Embryo donation in Prague

I contacted Praga Medica in March 2016 after being told in September 2015 that my chances of having my own baby naturally or IVF with my own eggs were extremely unlikely. I am 46 years old and my Husband and I have been trying to conceive for almost 10 years, with 2 miscarriages. I had to accept  Egg Donation was our only way forward.
From my very first contact with Blanka she couldn’t have been more helpful, kind & supportive, because I can honestly say I had some very stressful days/weeks leading up to the actual flight to Prague!
We had our initial appointment at the beginning of May with Dr Monika via Skype, where she confirmed our details & we decided to go for the Maximum Package so we could ask for specific characteristics of my donor. We paid extra for the ICSI fertilisation method, embryo glue and to have any remaining embryos frozen for 1 year.
Our first appointment in the Gest clinic was the 17th of June 2016 where we met Blanka face to face for the first time & Dr Monika who was to carry out the embryo transfer procedure. Dr Monika checked my endometrial lining was at the correct thickness via ultrasound, we signed the consent forms and agreed for my Husband to give a fresh sample on the day of egg retrieval.
I have fibroids so Dr Monika had said that only one embryo could be transferred as it would be dangerous for me to have twins.
Blanka made sure all our taxis were booked so we had no worries about getting to the clinic, which was a 5/10 minute drive (in all we had to go to the clinic 3 times).
Embryo transfer took place after 5 days of cultivation, painless & quick. I lay down for 15 minutes after the procedure in a private room in the clinic, then Blanka called us a taxi & we headed back to our apartment. I don’t know if it made any difference but for 3 days I just completely relaxed. On the 4th day we went for a walk around Prague city centre. We were there for 15 nights in total, which turned out to be fine in the end as it gave me an extra 4 days post transfer to relax before having to fly home to the UK.
After a stressful 10 days being back home and dreading doing the pregnancy test, on Tuesday the 12th of July we got a POSITIVE result!! It’s obviously very early days yet and I’m nervous of getting too excited at the moment, but I am more hopeful of becoming a Mum this time.
We also have 2 embryos frozen in case we want to try again 🙂
I would like to say a massive thank you to Dr Monika for her skill & professionalism, to Blanka for being so kind every step of the way & reassuring me every time I emailed her with one stressy moment after another & of course to my donor (who will never read this but I have to say it!) thank you from the bottom of my heart, without your kindness and selflessness I would never have been given this hope of having my own baby.
I was truly nervous about the whole procedure from the very beginning, but to anyone who is thinking about going down the egg donor route, I would highly recommend Praga Medica & it’s professional and friendly staff, no-one will look after you better 🙂
