What a place to open your eyes….
Prague largely survived World War Two intact. So much that elsewhere in Central Europe had to be rebuilt was never knocked down in the first place. And of course the buildings themselves make the city, and the city is well worth seeing. And this is where I was lucky enough to open my eyes after thirty years of glasses and, I now realise more than ever, pretty second rate correction of my fairly severe myopia and astigmatism. Having decided on laser eye treatment in the UK I was quoted £4,000 to £4,500. While I could have found it that’s still a big bill. So I researched, found Praga Medical and never looked back, if you’ll excuse the pun. From the moment I was met at the airport to the drive back four days later the staff could not have been more professional. Everything ran on rails. The surgeons, nurses, even my guide (who’d just returned from three years in Leicester of all places) spoke English to a very high standard. Much more importantly they really understood eyes. The tests I went through to decide exactly how bad my eyes were have to be the most thorough I’ve experienced. The surgery was swift, pretty much stress free and the after care prompt and accurate. I’m sitting here thinking of the downsides of the experience and the only one I can really think of was the clinic didn’t have any black tea. That I have to be so trivial tells you something. The entire experience, flights, hotels (which Praga Medical helped me book) the taxi rides, guides and a Czech mobile phone in addition to the surgery came to about 1/3 the cost of the UK service. And I sat on Wenceslas Square seven hours after the operation, thronged with thousands of people strolling through the last day of the Christmas market, able to see the other side of the road for the first time in thirty years and drank an entire bottle of Bohemian Sekt to celebrate. My vision is just about bang on and I am only angry I didn’t do this 15 years ago. Go. Go…..
