Among the risk factors for cataract occurrence are mainly age, general diseases, diabetes, using some medicines on a long-term basis, smoking and eye injury.

How is laser-assisted cataract surgery done?

What are benefits of LenSx surgery?

Many of the steps of the surgery are done before the incision is made in comparison to the standard method. The natural lens is crushed using a femtosecond laser instead of ultrasound. Less energy and less intrusion into the eye results in quicker recovery. The incision is made by the femtosecond laser hence increasing precision of the cut.

Both eyes femto-cataract surgery takes only total 5 days in Prague in 2 visits. Toric lenses are custom-made and it takes aprx. 3 weeks to have them ready after the initial preoperative examination. A thorough preoperative examination precedes the femto-cataract surgery and there is at least one post-operative check up after each eye surgery.

What are toric lenses?

A toric lens is an intraocular lens that is shaped in a particular way in order to correct astigmatism. Standard IOL lenses have a spherical surface. A toric IOL lens, in contrast, is a geometric shape that looks like a donut. The shape of toric contact lenses creates different refractive, or focusing, powers on the vertical and horizontal orientations. The toric lens is custom-made.

What is astigmatism?

Astigmatism is a refractive error and causes vision to be blurred. Astigmatism is usually caused by an irregularly shaped cornea, more like a football or the back of a spoon.
