Frequently Asked Questions
- What is long-sightedness? What is hypermetropia?
Long-sightedness is an English name for hypermetropia. It is a plus refractive defect. Long-sightedness is corrected with converging lenses - diopter glasses with a plus (+) mark. The eyeball is too short in the case of long-sightedness. Long-distance refracted rays meet behind the retina. A long-sighted person cannot mostly see in the distance and cannot see up close either. Unfortunately, there is no advantage in the disorder (contrary to a short-sighted person who cannot see well in the distance, but can see up close and does not usually need glasses to read). Long-sightedness of up to cca +5 diopters can be corrected with laser surgery. ICL-type surgery is a better solution for more serious disorders. RLE and PRELEX-type surgery is sometimes a better solution for people over 35 years of age.
